SnapKit is an innovative and satisfying toy that lets you create inventions from cereal boxes using a hole punch and 3D printed connector. If you can hole punch it, you can invent with it! If you have ever been frustrated with unsustainable, unfulfilling and unaffordable toys, this is the answer for you. SnapKit gives new life to the contents of your recycling bin and reduces waste, but it's not just about recycling: it’s about sparking imagination, encouraging problem solving, and creating sustainable habits whilst having fun!
SnapKit exists to unlock your invention potential: Template Kits make it easy to get hooked on creating something, whilst the versatile connectors mean the sky’s the limit. When you’re done with your creations, keep the connectors and recycle the cardboard for infinite iterations!
Building on successful play testing with users, we are now developing SnapKit to build a community who can share their creations, and to improve the method of manufacture for increased volume and consistency of the connectors.

Process:
Personal Position
Reviewing my past work and work in the industry that resonated with me, I identified 4 key metrics to measure the success of my project on: Fun, Making, Learning and Accessibility.
Previous Projects
In my three previous studio projects, I identified that I had fallen short of the mark in one of these areas and therefore was left feeling disappointed in the result.
National Archive Context
I identified the context of the Spirit of Invention Exhibition at the National Archive as a context to design an interactive and satisfying participatory making machine and got in contact with the Interpretation Developer there to tailor make a machine for their space.
Prototyping the Making Machine
I experimented with satisfying Mechanisms and considered how to hook the attention of Museum go-ers. This was enhanced by insights from museum visits.
Expert Feedback
My decision making was guided by feedback from industry experts at each stage of the process. In this way I was able to gain greater understanding of the psychological theory behind, context and output of the machine.
In Person Testing
Through the development process, I tested my prototypes with as many people as possible. I tried to build ways of measuring the impact of my machine into the machine itself to test this.
Using the Brochure!
I became interested in the idea of non-destructive creativity: how to enable a feeling of creating something without having to spend lots of money on refilling a machine. This gave rise to the idea of using the museum brochure (or other paper source) to build something.
Modular Paper Building
Started prototyping building with paper shapes but the results were underwhelming.
Testing Die Cutting
Experimenting to use die cutting to be able to turn the paper into useable shapes to build with.
Holepunches!
Exploring how to cut these shapes out in way that was satisfying, accessible and fun, I realised holepunches had great potential. I moved towards larger craft holepunches because of the increased functionality and more distinctive aesthetic.
